Launch and Registration
Manali Strays officially launched in 2019, on World Rabies Day—28th September.
We registered Manali Strays as a charitable Trust in India (Reg # 1/2020) in January 2020.
Then in May 2020, we registered in the UK as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with the Charity Commission (Reg # 1189542).
Our Mission
Manali Strays was founded to:
“Inspire harmony between animals and the humans who live with them. Thereby reducing human–animal conflict and creating a community that cares for its animals and ensures their continued health and wellbeing.”
This is a long-term ongoing mission that requires the support of the local community and government. This will allow us to humanely reduce the number of stray dogs in Manali and ensure all dogs are vaccinated against rabies.

Kamlesh
The People Person
Kamlesh is the General Manager of Manali Strays and is usually found with his ear glued to the phone, treating animals, or both simultaneously. Having worked in animal rescue for over 10 years, he is equally at home cleaning maggot wounds as he is meeting with government officials.
Becky
The Scientist
Becky has a PhD in immunology and a love of learning new things. She applies her scientific training and knowledge to improving the diagnosis and treatment of the animals and ensuring they get the best possible care with limited resources. She also acts as Scientific Consultant and Director of Operations, designing and implementing the protocols used by the rest of the team.
Buddhi
The Business Stategist
Buddhi is a local Manali resident with vast global travel experience, With an understanding of local cultural knowledge combined with Western thinking and business knowledge, he helps Manali Strays achieve its mission.
Irma
The Animal Rights Advocate
During her first visit to Manali in 2013, Irma's heart broke for the strays in need of medical care. After moving to Manali more permanently, she set out to find and bring together knowledgeable and passionate people to set up a much needed animal rescue in Manali.

Nestled in the heart of Kullu Valley, in northern India, Manali is surrounded by forested mountains and sits on the banks of the Beas River. The small Himalayan town offers a variety of activities for outdoor adventurers; hiking, mountain biking, guided treks, paragliding, rafting, snowboarding, skiing, & motorbike tours.
Manali is just 50 km away from the Great Himalayan National Park, which is home to an array of wildlife, such as bears, leopards, birds of prey, foxes, and deer.
There is an abundance of cafes, restaurants, shops, hotels, guest houses, AirBnBs, and home-stays to suit all budgets. Feeling a bit more adventurous? then go glamping at GlampEco. Or, if you visit during the winter, you can even stay in an Igloo, up in one of the small mountain villages.
