Key Facilities at Manali Strays
We are fortunate enough to have many great supporters in the Kullu district and beyond. This enabled us to establish a rescue centre that is equipped with veterinary facilities such as vital diagnostics and infra-structure.
Without these facilities, we couldn’t provide such a high level of care, and animals would continue to suffer.
Despite our achievements since starting, we are always aiming to improve and expand. Our goal is to always help more animals and provide the best care possible.
Veterinary Facilites
We always employ our own veterinarians and paravets so that we can treat as many cases in-house as possible. Our co-founder and manager is also a trained paravet with over ten yeasr of experience, so he is always on hand to help and offer medical advice. For cases requiring more extensive diagnostics, we always refer or seek the advice of Palampur Veterinary College.
Our surgery room is a dedicated space for performing sterilisations, amputations and other vital surgeries when required.
Our clinic is equipped with the most common equipment and instruments required to treat animals with a variety of medical conditions.
Diagnostic Facilities
One of Manali Strays’ co-founders trained as a research scientist, with a PhD in immunology. So it was a natural step for Manali Strays to set up diagnostic facilities, complete with microscopy, biochemistry, and haematology.
Microscopy is a fundamental tool in veterinary medicine. It allows us to diagnose certain skin diseases, bacterial and yeast infections, tumours, and much more.
Our automated biochemistry analyser means we can check the health and function of various organs and assess the overall health of an animal.
Haematology is one of our most used diagnostic tools. It is vital for identifying anaemias, infection and inflammation, and potential tick fevers.
Inpatient Facilities
The overall environment and atmosphere at Manali Strays is one of calmness and healing. If the animals are happy, they will heal faster and remember their positive experience with people, even if they have suffered abuse in the past.
Green open spaces are key to creating a stress-free environment conducive to healing. Our inpatient area provides just that. We have six separate pens so that animals can be grouped according to temperament or medical needs. We also refuse to over-crowd as this leads to stress, spread of disease, and longer recovery times.
Our kennels were purpose-built as soon as we started to rent the land for Manali Strays. There are ten individual kennels; all are bright and open with lots of natural light. The floors and walls are tiled to make the daily cleaning easier and maintain hygiene. Given the opportunity, many dogs choose to enter the kennels for a quiet afternoon nap.
Good staff are vital for any animal rescue organisation. The compassion and care they show for the animals is what helps the animals to heal. At Manali Stays we treat each animal as though it were our own pet. This can make it difficult to release animals, as we all get quite attached to them. And on several occasions, dogs have made their way back to us after we have released them.
